Midwife: An Adventure

Midwife – An Adventure: Memoirs of an Urban Midwife

Urban Midwife series, Volume 3

From the author of BABY CATCHER.

PEGGY VINCENT

Set around Berkeley, California, Midwife: An Adventure is filled with unique characters and local color balanced by a skilled midwife’s ability to educate readers through the ancient art of storytelling. Voices of women and children from the Internet are unique additions to this volume.

Narrated by a midwife with a Go Get ‘Em attitude and written with humor, tolerance, and everlasting wonderment, Midwife: An Adventure is Peggy’s fourth book on the subject but her third in the series Memoirs of an Urban Midwife. Along with Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife, Scribner 2002), Peggy’s first book, these volumes have provided the impetus for many women to become midwives and for even more to consider the option of choosing a midwife for their care, whether they planned a home or a hospital birth.

Who is Peggy Vincent?

In 1980, after fifteen years as a delivery room nurse, ten years as a childbirth educator, and three years as the director of the first alternative birth center in Berkeley, CA, PEGGY VINCENT became a Certified Nurse Midwife. Initially attending only home births, three years later Peggy became the first independent nurse midwife in the area to be granted hospital privileges.

Her memoir, Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife, was published in 2002 by Scribner and has been optioned for a potential TV mini-series. Now retired and living in Oakland, CA, with Roger, her husband of more than fifty years, she still enjoys putting in a cameo appearance at special home births now and then.
